The 'Giving Library'

All the staff at Valley Mission work to impact in a positive way the people we serve. In developing new directions we are sometimes presented with opportunities not of our own design, but ones that naturally complement our work.

And so it was when Cindy Correll, a columnist for Staunton's newspaper The News Leader contacted us with an idea to put a new book in the hands of each child who comes to stay at the Mission. The News Leader staff had received some new books, and with the support of their Publisher, Mr. Roger Watson, the staff excitedly prepared a donation that included books for all ages.

With this donation the 'Giving Library' was formed. A book is chosen by each child when the family meets with our Case Manager. For those who want a bit more, we have included new stuffed animals in the Library.

We are now seeking additional new books for children and teens so that every child can experience the joy of choosing a new book to keep.
