| News Flash! The Valley Mission was featured on WHSV television, Harrisonburg.
This Easter Sunday, good neighbors in Staunton worked hard to help the needy at the Valley Mission. Chris Cline has lived at the Valley Mission since late January, when he lost his job in graphic design. He's found he's more grateful for the little things. "It's kind of tough being here," Cline said. "No one thinks they're going to end up in a shelter. When you finally do, you're grateful for having a place to stay, you're grateful for food." Valley Mission employees dished up a brunch to anyone who needed a bite to eat. They feed the hungry every day of the year and wanted to remember the Easter holiday. The mission group also hosted a church service to remind people they have somewhere to turn for help. Mission employee Marc Rosson hopes people will leave the service feeling uplifted. "Their situation has been rough for them," Rosson said. "Whether it be they just grew up without a lot of money, or they grew up impoverished, or they just had bad misfortune, they have to have something to believe in." Cline misses his family, but he has found a new kind of family in Staunton. He said the mission's goals have helped him work through his unemployment. "Everyone comes from different places, but once we're all here, we're all in the same boat, and we really stick together. It's a good support system," Cline said. The Valley Mission is open every day of the year. Rosson said the group is always looking for donations of any sort. © Copyright 2012 WHSV / Gray Television Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved |
