Meals at the Mission
|
Every day of the year, we feed the hungryThe need is great. The demands on the Mission's meal service have grown substantially due to national and local economic downturns. In 2010, the Mission served 45,105 meals, an average of 124 meals each day, an increase of 29% over 2009.Meals are served every day of the year and are free. Almost all the food served in the dining hall is donated by individuals, local groups or corporations. The Mission depends heavily on these donations to meet the needs of our hungry residents and community neighbors. Mission staff prepare meals during the week. On weekends, volunteer individuals, families, and groups from local churches, schools, synagogues and community organizations prepare and serve the meals. |
Some things we hope forThe dining hall needs a restaurant-style salad bar, so we can provide a variety of fresh salads and vegetables in our effort to improve the qualilty of food served.Want to help? Donate funds for the salad bar!
The kitchen needs additional storage space for frozen foods, and a walk-in freezer would be the best use of limited space. A walk-in freezer will replace several chest-type freezers and a reach-in freezer currently in the kitchen. This conversion will bring significant savings in electricity and use our limited space more efficiently. Want to help? If you would like to donate funds for this freezer and its installation, please call the Mission at 540-886-4673. |
