Dorm Renovations and Open House. A Great Success!
From WHSV:
STAUNTON, Va. -- Volunteers and organizers with the Valley Mission will be celebrating major renovations done recently at the building.Development and Communications Coordinator Christal Yowell said that the last thing they were waiting on is the plumbing. Everything else is ready and hopefully by Thursday night, they'll have the shower heads installed in the new women's dorm. There are 49 people staying the shelter, after some families were able to move out. On Thursday night, they'll reveal the finished product, which will include updates to the men's dorm as well as a new dorm for women. The renovations will allow for nine rooms to be used for families specifically. Yowell said they've really seen an increase in families coming to the shelter in the last few years because of the economy."To be able to open up more space for families and have a specific space just for females as well, that's pretty big in this area because Augusta county does not have a lot of shelters for those in need in the community," said Yowell. They were hoping to be done with renovations by April but with weather as well as scheduling with contractors, it has taken time. Yowell said they couldn't have done the work without the help of volunteers, including students from James Madison University and Mary Baldwin college.
