Mission Inception
1971
The Valley Mission, first known as the Gospel Army Rescue Mission, started housing residents on September 20th, 1971 in the former Dunsmore Business College building at 912 West Beverley Street in Staunton, Virginia.
Growth
1970s
Through the hard work and philanthropic efforts of hundreds of local Board Members and administrative staff over the years, Valley Mission has grown exponentially, currently providing temporary shelter and comprehensive case management services to more than 700 adults each year. Of those 700 clients, approximately 100 each year are children.
Sheltering
1974
A far cry from the small shelter that housed 23 people in March of 1974, Valley Mission now serves as both a meeting place for local non-profit professionals as well as a soup kitchen for those who are struggling with food insufficiency. Each year, Valley Mission serves up to 58,000 meals a year, at no cost to those who need our help.
New Executive Director
2012
Since the arrival of our current Executive Director, Susan Richardson, Valley Mission has expanded programming to create a healthy, holistic approach to meeting both the spiritual and physical needs of the homeless.
